The Seamaster Aqua Terra has been linked to golf for quite a while now. Players Sergio Garcia and Rory McIlroy even have their own versions of this watch. But today, Omega announces their Seamaster Aqua Terra Ultra Light, with a weight of just 55 grams!Ive seen better days, as I am kept away from the European Masters in Crans Montana this week because of a middle ear infection which doesnt allow me to take the plane to Geneva. I like playing golf, and although my skills are not on any serious level (by a stretch), I like to see how the pros play this highly addictive game. Going to Crans Montana in the past actually made me start playing golf (again), as one of the teaching pros there convin [...]

Already in 2018, we showed you the new Omega Speedmaster platinum moonphase watches, in green, blue and red. These watches were presented to us on platinum bracelets, with a weight of approximately 500 grams each.We dont exactly know why those watches (we showed them to you in this article) never made it to the market, but during the Time to Move event for press, Omega showed them once more. This time, with a leather strap and platinum clasp. Aside from the missing platinum bracelet, we didnt spot any other changes of the Omega Speedmaster platinum moonphase. However, we thought it was time to take one up close and share some of my thoughts with you for this Speedy Tuesday article. Meet the [...]
Friend of the show Lawrence Larry McGlynn has a website called Space Artifacts, which is worth a visit if youre into space-related topics.Larry is also known for his role in the Space Dealers TV show (Discovery channel) where he hunts down valuable items that were used in space (and on the Moon). He also loves the Speedmaster, and he has helped us on a few occasions to sort out topics and enabled us to have a little interview with Apollo astronaut Dave Scott (click here). For this weeks instalment of Speedy Tuesday, he contributes a report on this visit to the Sothebys auction Omega Speedmaster: To the Moon and Back | Celebrating 50 years since Apollo 11. It was hosted on July 19 in New York [...]
Omega Gen ve Dynamic watches from the '70s are fun, exciting and still very much under the radar.Mind you; it's not an easy task to search for Omega Dynamics on the web. The brand released various models at a different point in time, all under the name; Dynamic. Most of you probably remember the latest Dynamics (III) that first came out around 1995. It went on to a few years with the last model (a Targa Florio edition) coming out in 1999 if I'm correct. You had time-only and chronograph version, with large pump pushers and vintage-style dials. They came in a capsule; collectors often refer to as the tin can. I have to say, while those watches are not everyone's favourite, they represent exc [...]
With one of the most recent additions to the Speedmaster family, the Apollo XI Limited Edition in Moonshine gold, theres finally a gold Moonwatch again. Time to share my personal top 5 Speedmaster models in gold. The gold Moonwatch has been discontinued for a few years now. Three years ago, the movie Money Monster featured a gold Speedmaster, but it was a discontinued reference. This Speedmaster reference 3195.50.00 was simply an all-gold version of the regular Moonwatch and was in production between 1999 and 2012. The reason it got discontinued I dont know and can only make a well-educated guess, as these watches werent cheap, to begin with, and gold was a bit out of fashion. But it isnt any [...]
For years I thought my first Speedmaster would be the classic Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch as it is the watch with the most incredible story of all watches. And obviously, it is the watch the Speedmaster legacy has been built on so it seemed only logical that a brand new Speedmaster Professional or a Speedmaster Professional from 1977 C the year I was born C were the go-to models for me whenever I had to decide on my first Omega Speedmaster. But as you can read from the title, it didn't quite go as planned. My first Speedmaster turned out to be an Omega Speedmaster X-33 from 1998. And it turned out to be a great first choice that only made the Speedmaster legacy more significant for m [...]
50 years ago, Neil A. Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walked on the moon for the first time. This remarkable historic moment was a giant leap not only for the culture and science but also for Omega making the Speedmaster Professional one of the most recognisable watch in the world.Releasing limited series of the legendary Speedmaster Professional Apollo 11 50th Anniversary in Moonshine Gold, along with the stainless steel model, or hosting Speedy Tuesday World Tour, are just examples how Omega celebrates the first landing on the Moon and the Moonwatch legacy. With the market reevaluation and a drastic shift in consumer behaviour, a new dimension of collecting watches is dedicated to its enthusia [...]
It is Moonwatch Weekend here on Fratello, and at several other places, as it was exactly 50 years ago that Armstrong and Aldrin set foot on the Moon. Accompanied by the Speedmaster Professional. We usually try to keep our Moonwatch enthusiast for a Tuesday, but we feel were allowed to do so this weekend as well. From the authors of the book Moonwatch Only, you will now also find this smaller hardcover book called A Moon Watch Story. It is not an addition to Moonwatch Only (we reviewed the 2nd edition here), but an alternative for those who dont want to shill out 250 (or more, since it is officially out of print and prices rapidly increased for a copy on eBay and elsewhere). And although I whol [...]
Exactly 50 years ago, Apollo 11 landed on the Moon and on the wrist of Edwin Buzz Aldrin was an Omega Speedmaster Professional 105.012. From that moment, the chronograph as part of the astronauts official equipment became The Moonwatch. Today, Omega shows us the Speedmaster Moonwatch 321 Platinum to commemorate Apollo XI and celebrate caliber 321.As you can read in this article we published last week, the Speedmaster didnt become the watch of choice by accident, it underwent some proper testing procedures by NASAs engineers and was the only watch to pass all tests. The Speedmaster that NASA qualified for all manned flight-missions, was their reference 105.003. But soon after, Omega made adju [...]
In 2021, Omega updated the iconic Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch with the caliber 3861 movement. A very good reason to update our Speedmaster Buyers Guide as well! This guide dates all the way back to 2014, and since then, a lot happened. Not only did we have our own way with Omega and the two Speedmaster Speedy Tuesday watches (in 2017 and 2018), Omega also introduced a number of interesting Speedmaster watches to the collection. What about the Speedmaster Calibre 321 from 2020, or the new Moonwatch Master Chronometer models in gold? Time for us to update this Speedmaster Buyers Guide. In this Speedmaster Buyers Guide, we give you an overview of the most important references of the Speedm [...]
This year we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Moon landing, and with that, also the 50th anniversary of the Speedmaster Professional as the Moonwatch. Time to recap once more how the Speedmaster became the Moonwatch.Exactly 50 years ago, on July 16, the Saturn V rocket was on its way to the Moon (and back) as part of the Apollo XI mission. On board were fearless astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins. On their wrists, but probably the least of their concern, the Omega Speedmaster Professional. On July 20th 1969, the Apollo 11 Lunar Module put astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin Buzz Aldrin on the surface of the Moon. Michael Collins stays in the Command Module. On Jul [...]

Even when youre not into watches, or into Speedmasters, it is nearly impossible that you have not been confronted with a gold coloured astronaut, a picture of the gold Speedmaster Apollo 11 50th anniversary or an advertisement of the Moonwatch. What did you expect? Omega has been keen on their role as the official supplier of chronographs to the NASA astronauts since 1965. The 25th anniversary was already celebrated with a special engraved steel Moonwatch (2500? pieces), a white gold Speedmaster Professional (limited to 500 pieces), a very limited run of 50 pieces in platinum and a special run of the steel Speedmaster Professional watch with a display back for the Italian market (999 pieces). ,The latest, number 25 to be exact, James Bond movie is in the making. Finally It was time for the team to continue on this epic journey and bring the adventures of 007 to the silver screen. For a long time, it seemed that the 25th Bond movie was not going to happen anytime soon. First, the debate came about who'll play Her Majesty's secret agent. Now we know that Daniel Craig is back C or rather, never left. Then, Danny Boyle jumped ship, and the production lost its director. Luckily, they found a new person in charge rather quickly. To direct this epic film, the producers chose none other than Cary Fukunaga who most of you might know as the director of True Detective's first season. Fukuna [...]
After our Singapore Speedy Tuesday Event, we travelled to Hong Kong to host the Speedy Tuesday event on Thursday, June 27th.Similar to the report of the event in Singapore, we share the pictures that we took during the Hong Speedy Tuesday Event. In the same constellation (no pun intended) as in Singapore (together with the Head of Brand Heritage Petros Protopapas, former NASA engineer James H. Ragan), we did presentations and a panel discussion in Hong Kong. Of course, there was also the opportunity to try the new Speedmaster Apollo XI watches. These watches are being delivered to the markets as we speak.I was very happy to see so many enthusiast Speedmaster fans in Hong Kong, and we also (a [...]
Last week we held our Speedy Tuesday events in Singapore and Hong Kong. Together with Omegas Petros Protopapas (Head of Brand Heritage) and former NASA engineer James H. Ragan, we travelled to these two great places to host the Speedy Tuesday events.I already briefly gave a summary on the trip itself in yesterdays Fratello on Air podcast (episode 2), but heres the photo report of the events itself. Let me start by saying that it was inspiring to be in Singapore and Hong Kong. Ive been to Singapore before when I was still in banking, and I was happy to be back. However, on the contrary to my previous visits, I had only a little time to explore the city. The Speedy Tuesday event itself was hel [...]
This is more of a story about my Omega Seamaster 300 CK2913 than a review. The story every collector dreams of happening to them ideally 10+ times. But in reality, such lucky moments do not come often. Its another reason why I will try to share it with you as I experienced, taking you through every gripping detail.Omega Seamaster 300 CK2913-8Head back to April 8th and I was sitting in a sweaty corner of Budapest Airport that fails to pass as a restaurant, waiting for my flight to Leeds. While reaching for another fry over the table, I saw a message on my WhatsApp flash on the screen. Tired after a long day of pitching my business to clients, I slowly took the phone. My heart almost literally [...]
We break down the event that unveiled the Omega Seamaster Ultra Deep and think about the future. Its been days since the reveal of the Omega Seamaster Ultra Deep at the British Museum in London, but the event left a lasting impression with me.? For certain, the creation of a watch able to withstand 15,000 meters of depth was extremely impressive, but there were other things at work that made this day significant.? Like every other site, we were Johnny on the spot with an article once the embargo dropped, but lets now take a deeper look at what happened that day, the reaction to the watch, and what we think might develop as a result.London Never a Bad ChoiceI love London and to those who know [...]
