Dia dhuit, watch peeps!? Its time for This Week in Watches for October 5, 2019!For this episode of This Week in Watches, we have?a lot to cover.? It seems that the entry of October has brands already thinking of the holiday season and where theyd like you to spend your money.? Lets see if this weeks new treats provide that level of temptation.? Here we go!Breitling and OuterknownOne of Breitlings squads happens to focus on surfing.? And when it comes to surfers, there are few who are better known than Kelly Slater, an American surfer with 11(!!) world championships under his belt errrr, board shorts.? Slater also founded a company by the name of Outerknown, a sustainable apparel brand.? Wel [...]
A watch that celebrates the lifestyle of motorcycling, surfing, and skateboarding. We think it is probably the first time that a watch commemorates a lifestyle event that is about these activities. Meet the Breitling Premier B01 Chronograph 42 Wheels and Waves Limited Edition.Last week in Biarritz, where the Wheels and Waves festival took place for the 8th consecutive time, Breitling presented their Premier B01 chronograph watch in 42mm. Breitling is one of the main sponsors of this event (others being BMW, Honda, Royal Enfield, Moto Guzzi, Husqvarna, Triumph etc.) and they make it possible for those who love motorcycles, surfing and skateboarding, to celebrate five days of activities around [...]
What are you going to write about a watch that so many people know? my wife asks me this week. I told her to count all the articles written about Speedmasters. These are my confessionsThe Breitling SuperOcean ref 2005 you see here can take a break after 50 years of being ready to sink into 600 foot waters. It is not only because I do not dive, I do not swim One would call me a perfect fit for this late 1960s diver. To be perfectly precise, I can't swim. Which means I can guarantee that this Breitling SuperOcean will never see water in the years to come. The closest it will get to the ocean will be stretching it here over the map. a map that took a few calls and a bit of driving around the cit [...]

It seems they've been reinventing themselves under new leadership and perhaps the new PC-7 Team watches are the first of many new announcements.? Fortis has been in partnership with the Swiss Air Force Demonstration Tea [...]
Yesterday, just prior to the start of Baselworld 2019, the new Breitling Superocean Collection debuted.? We had the chance to take a look at a couple different sizes. When most think of Breitling, chronographs come to mind.? With a stalwart such as the Navitimer (you can read our recent review of the new 1959 Reissue), other models often dont get the same level of press, but Breitling has actually been making dive watches since 1957 and theyre quite popular.? With the new Breitling Superocean Collection, the brand updates its collection (versus the prior Superocean II) with an astounding five different diameters 36, 42, 44, 46, and 48mm.? So, theres truly something for everyone and every gen [...]
Today, we're excited to bring you a hands-on look at something we've been anticipating: the Breitling Navitimer 806 1959 Reedition. For many of us, we thought this day would never come, but lo and behold, we have finally arrived and Breitling has? delivered a watch that should please fans of its impressive back catalog.? With the announcement of the Breitling Navitimer 806 1959 Reedition, we are getting a no excuses watch that ticks every box (aside from it actually being from 1959); there's honestly so little to complain about that it should silence even the most persnickety critics.? We'll talk about why that is, what went into making this watch and what you'll be getting should you be luck [...]
We are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Chronomatic. The watch portals and mostly watch enthusiasts such as Jeffrey Stein (@on_the_dash) have already summed up everything factual about the Caliber 11, its development, its originality and break-through meaning. So, I think we can allow ourselves to be a bit sentimental now, right?Breitling is my OmegaYou know that RJ sold a?car to get his first Speedmaster? Well, the time I?wanted my first Breitling I?didn't do that. Not that I?didn't want to, but I?didn't have a car or anything else I could sell for that matter. It was in 2002. I?came to the capital city of Slovakia as an 18-year-old student with just enough money to cover the rent fo [...]
In what has become an increasingly divided world, it's difficult to find topics of discussion where almost all sides can come together in unanimous agreement. One such example of harmony, though, relates to opinion on the run of watches that Breitling created with Bentley since the two began partnering way back in 2003 (that's the longest running partnership between a watch brand and an automotive marque as an FYI).? If you were wondering about the flavor of said opinion, it was, in a word, awful.? The Bentley by Breitling watches were large, garish, and contained little of the elegance and prestige that the four-wheeled Bentleys so proudly exuded.? Well, today, in honor of Bentley's hundredt [...]
In a recent installment of This Week in Watches, we mentioned that Jeff Stein C noted Heuer collector and creator of On the Dash and Fred Mandelbaum C noted Breitling collector would be hosting a bit of a celebration for the 50th anniversary of the Chronomatic movement.? Their respective Instagram accounts (@on_the_dash and @watchfred)? will serve as ground zero for the events, but we have a feeling that some others will get in on the act.? As a reminder, begin using the chronomatic50 hashtag starting on March 3rd through the 10th to participate.? First, though, we thought we'd provide a little background on the famous movement and I put together a brief Top 10 Chronomatic list of my favo [...]
While it isn't exactly breaking news, we have the lifting of an embargo on the new Breitling Curtiss Warhawk collection.? Curiously, Breitling showed one of the models back in November, but we are now treated to a three-piece collection of non limited special edition watches.? Let's take a look. The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk (photo courtesy of the United States Air Force)Fighter PlaneWith the Breitling Curtiss Warhawk collection, we have a themed line of watches dedicated to the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk, a legendary American single-seat fighter plane from World War 2 that was first built in 1938.? If you're not familiar with this plane, it saw serious action in both the European and Pacific theaters w [...]
Theres nothing like news on a Friday and today some colorful, and attractive, information hit our mailboxes with the introduction of the Breitling Navitimer Swissair Edition.? In stainless steel and 43mm (as a Navitimer should be sized), Breitling tells us that this watch is the first to come of within a capsule collection of models that will harken back to the golden age of civilian airline travel in the 60s and 70s.? The watches will feature the names of historic airline brands and the colors that they used.? Honestly, I think its a relevant idea for the brand, especially since Breitling has earned its reputation as a pilots watch.? It doesnt hurt that the first release looks so damn good [...]
We receive a lot of questions from people that give us a budget and ask us about the best watch they can buy for that. Thats too difficult to answer without knowing you to be honest. A watch is so personal, we wouldnt even recommend buying a watch for someone else only if you really know that person. We made an exception when an Italian reader asked us what to buy for his daughter (and give it to her in 18 years from now), but giving us a budget without any context is very difficult. You Asked Us:?What Watch Should I Buy To Celebrate a Life Event? That said, we received an email last week from one of our readers by the name of Moe regarding a watch to celebrate a special occasion. He likes the [...]
Ive been into watches since the 1990s and started Fratello in 2004. Ever since Ive seen a lot of different watch bracelets. It always amazed me that only a few watch brands are getting it right with these bracelets. Sometimes, they look gorgeous but wear like crap. And other times, the looks arent very attractive but wear fantastic. It is a very personal and thus subjective matter of course, but let me share with you the best watch bracelets in my book.Top 10 Best Watch Bracelets1. Rolex PresidentThe King, euh, President, of all bracelets as far as I am concerned. Only available in precious metals like white gold, yellow gold, red (Everose) gold and platinum. It consists of three semi-circul [...]
Earlier this year we visited the Breitling roadshow in Zurich, Switzerland, and had a sit-down with CEO Georges Kern. He was incredibly open to us (as you can read here) and the new collections were well received, including the new Navitimer 8 models.Worlds leading online marketplace of watches Chrono24, did a profile on Breitling and put it in an interesting infographic. We would like to share this infographic with you, and perhaps you see something that is new to you and might spark your interest in them. This infographic was made by Chrono24.com. [...]
I had the opportunity to stop by Antiquorum Geneva and check out the watches in their upcoming May sale. Watch auctions are interesting for me to see things that I either haven't seen in person or am not familiar with. I enjoy doing research or checking details to see if I discover something I hadn't noticed before. Clearly, today vintage aficionados are more educated and the free flow of information on the internet allows for more critical buying. A lot of tomatoes are flying around the internet, but that shouldn't take away from the good research and hunting that still awaits us.A personal visit allows me to dig a little further and ask the team more about the watches that interest me. The [...]
Today was press day at Baselworld 2018 and we took the opportunity to sit down with Breitling to see some of their newest releases. There's been a lot happening with the brand since the arrival of Georges Kern as CEO. Examples of this are the embracing of the brand's rich history, the deletion of the winged logo and the return of the script Band familiar Breitling font. With it, we've seen some new models announced such as the Breitling Navitimer 8 chronographs ? a 3-hand model, a chronograph with in-house B-01 movement and an ETA 7750-powered version. Today, we'll take a brief look at just some of the newly announced Breitling Baselworld 2018 pieces.Navitimer CollectionWithin the Breitling [...]
Just recently, we were invited to join the Breitling Roadshow in Zurich, Switzerland. Besides listening to CEO and shareholder Georges Kern during his presentation and gala diner about the future of Breitling, receiving a lesson or two in design by Guy Bove and an amazing history class by Fred Mandelbaum, I sat with Georges Kern to ask him some questions.? About the future of Breitling, the collections, selling on-line and certified pre-owned Breitling watches as well as his personal instagram account, on which he has become very active.Without further ado.Georges Kern InterviewRobert-Jan Broer: What are your most important goals for Breitling?Georges Kern: Globally, the goal is to build out [...]
If you're at all active on Instagram, then you've likely noticed some things going on around the Breitling brand. First, a couple Saturdays ago, there was the LegendaryFuture event where Breitling collectors posted pictures with their favorite chronographs from the brand. Alongside this, Breitling showed hints of an upcoming line on their feed. Then, last week, events in Asia debuted the new Breitling Navitimer 8 series. We'll get a chance in a week's time to see these pieces in Europe when Breitling continues its roadshow combining a museum-like display with the new pieces. For now, though, we'll continue to examine the brand's heritage in our recurring TBT series. Today's episode focuses [...]
2017 is over, so welcome 2018 2017 was a big year for us at Fratello Watches. Reader traffic grew and our team is stronger and more excited than ever to bring you unique content. Regarding that notion, let's take a look at?our least worn watches of 2017 from most of the team that is and, why not, we'll talk about what graced our wrists most because that seems to be a popular thing to do this year.? There are some surprising picks!Balazs Ferenczis PicksBalazs hes often known as Blaise because his name can be tricky to pronounce (seriously, ever been to Hungary?).? But, in 2017 we all learned how to say his name correctly you can even hear him give some lessons on the a Time4APint Podcast! [...]
We have partnered with Catawiki to bring you a selection of interesting watches theyve auctioned. Different from the other auctioneers in the market, Catawiki started originally in 2008 as a website where collectors could manage and keep track of their collections (comics for example). Then, because of growing popularity of the website, Catawiki started to host weekly auctions for collectible objects, including comics, art, antiques, classic cars, books and watches. As we introduced you to our Catawiki Favorites (Editors Choice) a? few weeks ago already, this time we show you three different watches of our choice. A tough one, as we could choose from a nice variety of watches (and brands). Ho [...]
