Glashuette original senator

Marcus Hanke wrote a review/posting on the new Senator series, introduced at Basel 2005.About four years ago, Heinz W. Pfeifer, then president of Glash?otte Original, mentioned a new automatic movement, designated cal. 100, to be in development. Of course, this stirred some unrest among the fans of the brand, and many hesitated to purchase a watch with a movement that seemingly would be replaced within some months or so.However, the years passed by, and the cal. 100 remained unseen. We knew it would eventually come and replace the traditional GO standard movement, the cal. 39, but the exact date of its release was unclear. Finally, at the Basel fair 2005, Dr. Frank M?oller, now the man at the [...]

Rolex Submariner - Historical Overview Of A Diving Legend

The design of the Submariner 114060, is unmistakably Rolex, despite the size and use of modern materials such as ceramics. To make it somewhat easier for you, we hereby show you the history of the Submariner in a nutshell, including a table with most important references since 1953 till the current line-up of Submariner watches.Diving Into Rolex SubmarinerThe Rolex Submariner is a watch with an interesting story. Michele Cuoccio's watchsite

Michele Cuoccio, owner of the Russianwatches website and moderator of WatchUSeeks Russian Watches Forum, seems to have put a lot of effort in her Russian watch passion. On April 12, 1961, Yury Gagarin took along the wrist-watch Sturmanskie in the worlds first space mission. Since that time Poljot became the trade mark of the First Moscow Watch Factory. If you are passionate about Russian wristwatches as well, you better click here for more. [...]

Siemens hides Rolex

I got this one in via e-mail by Martin, it is a reference to an article in a German magazine called Der Spiegel.Hi RJ!Do you know some German? If so, Im sure youre going to like this one:https://m.spiegel.de/wirtschaft/0,1518,339120,00.htmlIts about a Siemens manager who had his Rolex Sub retouched from his official press photo before announcing major layoffs. Pretty embarassing stuff.-martinThe photo the article is about: [...]

Odd looking Speedmaster

Yesterday I was at Gerards place and he asked me if Speedmasters always were chronographs. I didnt have to think long and said that I cant remember seeing them. Then he showed me this Omega brochure from 1991 with a Speedmaster on the cover which wasnt a chronograph. The referencenumber is definately Speedmaster, since it is in the 3000-series. The case-shape showed some similairities as well (notice the outside of the lugs). But thats it.No Speedmaster on the dial as well, but I was told that the caseback had Speedmaster engraved.Click here for the thread over at the Speedmaster Forum at The Speedmaster Club [...]

Why You Can't Go Wrong With The Rolex Datejust

When I started collecting watches in the late 1990s, my watch dealer and now Fratello contributor Gerard told me that I needed a Rolex Datejust. Cant go wrong with a Rolex Datejust as they always work. With anything.. A short and simple statement from someone who had by that time already seen and tried it all. A few years later, just after graduation, I got my first Datejust. It was a vintage Datejust from 1969, with reference 1600, on a jubilee bracelet that was clearly added later. I managed to find a couple of extra bezels, including the fluted white gold one, so I could change it to a reference 1601 when I felt like it. It was also an easy watch to wear on a leather strap.Rolex Datej [...]

Deke Slayton's watch

Jason Oliver at TimeZone posted a message that the Speedmaster Pro owned by astronaut Deke Slayton was sold at some auction. You can find it here. Here is a picture of the watch:I hope the buyer puts on a new strap ?? The buckle seems to be original Omega (and in the right time-period). I really doubt if I would ever sell such a personal belonging as a watch that joined me on spaceflights. [...]

Patek or Lange

Thats the question that keeps Michael Sandler of TZ busy ?? A lot of reactions, and it almost seems to be a Rolex vs Other brand. It is nice to see all those opinions, and sometimes Patek is getting the same blame as Rolex. Do you want it because it says Patek? Pfff unbelievable. Some people tend to forget that buying a watch is very personal, either you like it better than the other or you dont. Most of the time people cant even explain why they like the other one better. And they dont have to in my opinion. It is about taste, not about a name on the dial, especially not with watches with these kind of names on it.Oh btw, it is this watch:and this one..Personally, I would go Patek. To me, it [...]

Sinn EZM review

Some time ago, Bas van Dorp and I both decided we needed a Lemania 5100 watch. I bought a Sinn 142 St.S at Horloge Platform Nederland in The Hague and Bas ordered a Sinn EZM1. His one was on order, and since the run on the last watches with Lemania 5100 was enormous, he had to wait a bit longer. Last week his watch arrived and here you can read his review on his EZM1.About two years ago, I read that Lemania would end the production of thecal. 5100. The horror The guys who came up with this idea will be thefirst against the wall when the revolution comes, that's for sure. Sinn, among others, would still be producing watches with this movement, usingthe remaining stock. I was still happy wearin [...]

Mark V

Although Chuck Maddox wrote that the only true Mark V is a Speedmaster Mark V with caliber 1045 movement, I hereby add the German Special from 1982 with caliber 861 movement to Mark V as well. ??Yesterday (and today) a fellow from a large ICT company configured a server for one of the companies I work for, I noticed at lunch that he was wearing a Speedmaster Mark V. It slipped my mind that it probably would seem a bit sick to start about his watch, but on the other hand, this watch probably cost him quite some money, and since it is quite scarce, I decided to go ahead. He bought this watch in 1982 (which is the only year Omega produced it, for the German market. Productionnumber unknown) and [...]

Rolex Explorer Opinion Girl

In the statistics of this website, I can see how people came to this weblog. I can even see the words they used in Yahoo Search, Google or other searchengines. Most of the time, the search string is quite clear and logical. Rolex prices or Panerai straps for example. However, today I saw this one:rolex explorer opinion girlNow I am curious about the question of the Googler. Was it a girl who was looking for Rolex Explorer opinions (for girls), or was it a guy who was curious about the opinions girls have on this watch? In either case, I will try to answer this one for the unknown visitor on this site who searched on this string.Scenario 1. You are a girl and want to know how people think abou [...]

A while ago, I mentioned that The (Dutch) Speedmaster Club is being revived. The first step is here.. a dedicated forum for Omega Speedmaster watches.I installed a PHPBB forum system on my omega-addict.com site and since today it is up and running. For other non-Speedmaster watches, I suggest you (still) go to WatchUseeks Omega Forum ofcourse.Click the banner below or click here to go to the Speedmaster Forum It is a bit sparse ofcourse, but its new ??To prevent confusion, you dont have to be Dutch to join!! Moral problems on a watch or brand

Do you have ever any moral problems on a watch? I mean, Fliegerwatches that were used by the Luftwaffe, Panerai watches that were used by the Italian Navy in WWII, U-Boat watches that were in the race to be elected by Nazis for their frogmen. Maybe even sooner, when a watch was used in any kind of war. The Glycine Airman used by US chopperpilots in Vietnam, Omega 30T2 watches used by the RAF in WWII and so on.I am not one of those, however, the line is getting thin when it is about watches that would be actually used by Nazi pilots or soldiers who were on the wrong side in WWII. When I was attending the P-Day 3 meeting in Frankfurt, some guys where showing off all their Italian Navy collect [...]

If I ever would >

If I ever would get myself another IWC (I had a caliber 89 IWC for a short time) I will buy an Ingenieur Larry Seiden, Marco Sch??nenberger and David Ter Molen wrote a very nice article on this great timepiece by IWC. You can find it here.I have a weakness for luxery sportswatches like the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo, so I would definately get myself the IWC Ingenieur SL Jumbo like the one below, ref.1831. If I only had the money.. [...]

This is not a Silberstein, it is an original Adee Kaye

Sheesj. Adee Kaye watches creating an Invicta Lupah replica. Besides the shameless Invicta copy, they also make copies of Zeno, Breitling, IWC, Fortis, Alain Silberstein and moreCheck this link here for a nice overview on shameless watchproducers. This is not a Silberstein, it is an original Adee Kaye. They could at least have come up with a better name than something which sounds like Yipee Caye.
