Episode 35: Fratello On Air - Black Badger Unleashed (Podcast)

Hanging out with friends is fun. Hanging out with friends on a Podcast when the friend in question happens to be James Thompson, AKA Black Badger? Thats a whole lotta awesome. Join us, as we pollute your airwaves with some top quality jive, touching on lume, Fordite, and our shared sporting tragediesThe Black Badger brand is one of the best-known non-watch brands in the watch industry. James has been beavering (or badgering?) away up in Gothenberg for the past couple of decades since he fled his native Canada because he may or may not have been being pursued by the KGB (listen to the podcast if you want to find out why that seems possible/likely):Since founding Black Badger, James has been o [...]

TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 02 Porsche Special Edition Watch Drops Today

Its 2021. The world has become so accustomed to having been turned on its head by the relentless pandemic that began sweeping the globe more than a year ago that it seems the worlds ears have sprouted feet of their own. Thats right: this is the new normal. Brands are getting more and more creative. Some are looking within themselves for answers, digging through their archives and searching their true souls for messages their followers desperately need to hear. Meanwhile, TAG Heuer and Porsche decided to turn their attention outward and, incidentally, toward one another. As such, Im pleased to announce the TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 02 Porsche special edition watch.Values make brands what they [...]

Wrist Game or Crying Shame: TAG Heuer Tiger Woods Professional Golf Watch

Welcome to the first Wrist Game or Crying Shame of 2021 and were starting things off with a look at the TAG Heuer Tiger Woods Professional Golf watch. But firstI ended 2020 with a watch from Rolex with an anti-magnetic personality. The Milgauss attracted a 69% Wrist Game vote along with some pretty heavy criticism. Folks called it portly, a weak performer, and hardly deserving of its professional-grade nomenclature. This week, we have an incredibly focused watch up for your voting pleasure. Enter the TAG Heuer Tiger Woods Professional Golf watch. I have a prediction on how this will go, but much like a Tiger Woods tournament entry these days, you just never know if it will end in a DNQ or a [...]

Wearing The 3rd Generation TAG Heuer Connected Watch

Theres always been a bit of hostility between smartwatches and watch aficionados.? And yet, although I call myself a watch lover, I dont experience this negative feeling. And so it wasnt too much of an effort to wear the TAG Heuer Connected for a few weeks daily. Mostly, I enjoyed using it as a regular watch and as a stopwatch for cooking purposes. But using it as an activity tracker as well, and as a notification center was an interesting experience. Id like to share my thoughts on that below.Who would have thought that the TAG Heuer connected would have made it to its 3rd generation? TAG Heuer first tested the water in 2015, becoming one of the first major luxury brands to dive into this n [...]

Wrist Game or Crying Shame: TAG Heuer Kirium Formula 1

Welcome back to Wrist Game or Crying Shame and this week lets look at the racy TAG Heuer Kirium F1. Lets see if you fancy this once futuristic chronograph. But firstLast week, I served up a cold frothy glass of root beer Rolex style. I chose the newest two-tone Rolex GMT-Master II with a bicolor bezel. You folks were thirsty and ably chugged down this Rolex with a 71% Wrist Game bottoms up This week, we stay a bit flashy, but head back to the early 2000s with a watch well, the line anyhow that was once quite popular. Were choosing the most unique model in the lineup, though, with the TAG Heuer Kirium F1.The TAG Heuer Kirium Formula 1Noted TAG Heuer site calibre11.com tells us that the Kiri [...]

TAG Heuer - Bamford Aquaracer Is A Gritty Take On A Classic Dive Watch

Its bromance time. TAG Heuer and Bamford Watch Department. Most of you will at least be familiar with the Aquaracer line from TAG. These entry-level dive watches have a lot of fans in the community and are nothing if not reliable and well-made watches.Theyve always been a little safe in their design from my personal point of view. Reliable? Yes. Solid? Yes. Exciting? Perhaps not so much. Now, this is something I have said very frequently on the site Taste is subjective. My tastes will differ from yours. With that in mind, I think the new Bamford Aquaracer proves exactly why TAG Heuer keeps going back to George Bamford and rekindling this bromance.TAG Heuer a Bamford AquaracerThe Aquaracer Ba [...]

Hands-On: TAG Heuer Formula One Senna 2020 Edition Automatic

After his recent triumph in the 2020 championship, Lewis Hamiltons name is the one on most peoples lips these days when it comes to Formula One. After all, he is now the most decorated driver to ever get behind the wheel. His latest win ties him with Schumachers 7 World Titles. Hamilton also holds the outright records for the most wins (94), pole positions (97), podium finishes (163), points finishes (227), career points (3,738), and points in a season (413). Pretty impressive stuff. That said, to many people, theres another great who tragically left us long before his time. That man is the Brazilian racing legend, Ayrton Senna. In certain circles, he is still considered the greatest racing d [...]

Two Handsome TAG Heuer Carreras Celebrating 160 Years Of Heuer

The TAG Heuer Carrera 160 Years Silver Limited Edition watch launched back in January. As one of the brands most handsome releases this year, were happy to bring it back to your attention. Harnessing the old-school vibes of Heuers golden age, this Carrera adds a touch of after-dinner class to a collection that is, in its modern guise, far more sporty in style. When youve been around for 160 years (as Heuer has), you can be forgiven for running out of model names. But it has to be said that TAG Heuer could have given its new Carrera any name under the sun and it would still be a handsome addition to the catalog. The new TAG Heuer Carrera (reference number CBK221B.FC6479) was a welcome return t [...]

TAG Heuer introduces the Carrera Sport Chronograph 160 Years Special Editions

In the 160th year of Heuers existence, TAG Heuer has graced us with a string of Carrera releases. The year started with the Carrera Silver Dial Limited Edition. In June, we saw the release of the Carrera Montreal Limited Edtion. And today sees the brand releasing the new Carrera Sport Chronograph 160 Years Special Editions. These two new timepieces are the first limited editions based on the new Carrera Sport Chronographs equipped with the Heuer 02 manufacture movement. And they are an homage to a great Heuer classic from the 1960s.To celebrate 160 years of the Heuer name, TAG Heuer has not just paid tribute to its rich history. This year, the brand also updated its collection of Carrera Chr [...]

TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph 39mm Calibre Heuer 02 Automatic

Last year, TAG Heuer celebrated the 50th birthday of an icon. The Heuer Monaco was one of former CEO Jack Heuers finest contributions to watchmaking (and, unwittingly, the silver screen). Following a rush of special edition timepieces dropped in 2019, TAG Heuer treats us to three more references (two dial colors) in the same vein. As 2020 slides towards non-existence, the TAG Heuer Monaco reminds us that it is still a relevant player in the sports chronograph category, now more than half a century after its debut. Its tough to do the same thing over and over again while remaining interesting. Even though I am not a huge fan of the TAG Heuer Monaco, I respect it plenty enough to have enjoyed t [...]

TAG Heuer Connected - New Technology Leading The Charge

Hold up, hold up. Smartwatches have a place in our industry. Im not going to tell you you need to shelve your mechanical babies in favor of a modern, super-duper, all-singing, all-dancing, endlessly connected contraption. No. Im not that guy. But I am a guy who is becoming a little more comfortable with keeping one of these luxury gizmos in his stable. I havent always felt this way, but the latest TAG Heuer Connected has started to change my mind. When I think about my former opinion on luxury smartwatches, it didnt really make much sense. I was quite comfortable dismissing them out of hand. Sure, I knew they were highly functional. Sure, I knew they could, in theory, make my life easier. But [...]

Pre-Owned Picks - 4 TAG Heuer Watches Linked To Motorsports

I love Formula One. Id put it above all my other passions. Ahead of fast cars, guitars, movies, music, and, yes, even watches. I try to keep it quiet because whenever you mention an interest in F1, everyone feels the need to weigh in: Oh, it is just going around in circles, or- its not a real sport. F1 is where I feel no need to listen to anyone elses opinion or justify my passion for it. Thankfully, wristwatches are intrinsically linked to Formula One enabling me to combine my interests.Sporty wristwatches and Formula One coalesce in a natural way that benefits both industries. TAG Heuer was the official timekeeper for Formula One for several years, in what I consider its heyday. The 90s ma [...]

TAG Heuer Carrera Sport Hands-On Watch Review

That green dial really means business And its about time. This rash of TAG Heuer Carrera Sport Chronographs is exactly what I think the family needed a return to form. Sensibility might not create headlines but it does underline classics. And that, as far as Im concerned, amounts to a low-key triumph for a very divisive mainstream brand.TAG Heuer is one of those brands that splits opinion. There are some who believe that the brand lost its way after TAG acquired Heuer in 1985. Others just as ardently extol it as the beginning and the end of the conversation when it comes to luxury sports watches (you know who you are). You may find yourself in either camp, or you may have yet to decide where [...]

Watch Releases: TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Calibre 02

TAG Heuer rounds off its 160th anniversary with a new lineup of Carrera Chronograph Calibre 02 models. We break down the news and give our thoughts.160 years as a company is certainly something to honor and TAG Heuer has steadily rolled out the goods in proper celebratory fashion. In January this year, we saw the beautiful Carrera 160 Years Silver Limited Edition. This was a faithful retro model that harkens back to the original 1963 model designed by Jack Heuer. Then, just a short couple of months ago, the first mainstream release came to light. We broke down the new 44mm Sport Carrera and came away impressed by the colorful, yet cohesively designed chronographs. Today, though, we finally ge [...]

Wrist Game Or Crying Shame: TAG Heuer Monaco CS2110

Welcome back to Wrist Game or Crying Shame where you choose stop, start, or reset. This week we travel back to 1997 to look at a TAG Heuer Monaco CS2110. But firstJust when I think I know my constituency, you guys throw me for a serious loop. Such was the case with last weeks Omega De Ville Power Reserve with the epic Brick bracelet. In a nod to the Commodores, lets just say you saw this watch as a Brick House, because you let it all hang out in a 70% Nice Price win. Seriously, just when I began losing faith in humanity, you restored it by voting for tasteful exuberance. Moving on todays TAG Heuer Monaco CS2110 sports a flashy bracelet, but thats not the real significance.Back to 1997 with [...]

TAG Heuer Carrera Sport Chronograph 44 mm Calibre Heuer 02 Automatic Watch

The word icon is thrown around way too often for comfort, in my opinion. But, like it or not, every brand has them within its history. The definition of the word a person or thing regarded as a representative symbol lessens its grandiosity and clearly makes it the perfect descriptive term for the TAG Heuer Carrera, a model which has, alongside other iconic pieces from the brand (such as the Monaco) defined the companys character for decades. Now its time for the latest chapter of this icons history to be written with the release of the TAG Heuer Carrera Sport Chronograph 44 mm Calibre Heuer 02 Automatic Watch.Updating icons is a tricky task. You cannot deviate too much from the script. This [...]

Wrist Game Or Crying Shame: TAG Heuer Link Chronograph

Welcome back to Wrist Game or Crying Shame, the weekly series that often brings back memories from your halcyon days. Lets see if the TAG Heuer Link Chronograph moistens your eyes for the right or wrong reasons. But firstLast week, I showed you the Glash1tte Original Senator Navigator. Even though that watch used a design heavily inspired by WW2 bomber watches, you felt it was Original enough to land a 58% Wrist Game win. For the proponents, I agree with you great watch This weeks subject wont take its inspiration from anything nearly that old, but the TAG Heuer Link Chronograph has certainly inspired me to travel back in time. Lets go for a ride.TAG Heuer owned the 1990sTAG Heuer is a fasc [...]

You Asked Us: Which Watches Do Rugby Referees Wear?

This one seriously surprised me the first time I saw it hit the inbox. The second time this question was asked, you could have knocked me down with a feather. At the third time of asking, I figured it was time to stop being shocked the people wanted to know and get on with answering the question. Which watches do Rugby referees wear? So, which watches do rugby referees wear? Off the pitch, I cant comment. Im sure some of the best refs in the game have a few fancy watches they strap-on when they dont have to worry about getting trampled by the stampeding juggernauts of the modern game. But on the field of play, a referees timepiece is often determined by sponsorship agreements between the comp [...]

Welcome back to This Week in Watches for May 23, 2020: the essential edition. Many of our readers either have a long weekend due to Memorial Day or are coming off of a bridge day from last week. We wont make you think too hard during your time off with these three-handers.Timex Milano XLIf we talk?essential, three-hands, a bracelet, a date function, 50 meters of water resistance and quartz define our needs. But why not throw in a little retro style to create an inexpensive looker? Well, thats precisely what Timex has done with its new Milano XL collection. The nice thing is that XL only means 38mm on this 1970s-inspired c-cased watch. Its available in three different colors which include sta [...]

The New Ulysse Nardin Freak S - Proving That The Freak Concept Is As Brilliant And Relevant As Ever

When Ulysse Nardin introduced its famous Freak in 2001, the idea was bold and revolutionary. More than two decades later, the Freak concept has evolved significantly. What has remained, however,?is that all the brands Freak creations are still as bold and revolutionary as that original version 21 years ago. These watches feature no dial, no hands, and no crown. Instead, these are timepieces with a revolving movement equipped with a gear train and escapement rotating once every hour to display the minutes. During Watches And Wonders, Ulysse Nardin revealed the new Freak S. The watch features a new, revolutionary movement with two oscillators and it comes equipped with a new case. Oh, and it l [...]
